NEHBA is one of the newest business associations in the City of Minneapolis and has already had a significant impact on the businesses within the association boundaries. Our mission is to advocate for business owners (store front and home based), strengthen relationships between businesses and the community, and serve as a conduit between members and the City of Minneapolis to improve activity that assists in business development. It's our goal to build a sense of business identity through regularly scheduled meetings, networking between our members, and coordinated activities with the six neighborhood organizations that fall within our boundaries (all of East Harriet Farmstead and Kingfield and parts of CARAG, Lyndale, Lynhurst andTangletown/Fuller).
NEHBA serves all businesses within our boundaries - not just our members - and the size of our paid membership gives us an influential voice in speaking on behalf of the business community.
To better serve our community and provide an online presence for our business members, NEHBA launched experiencesouthwest.com, Southwest Minneapolis' only online business directory. We hope you bookmark this directory and use it to locate and find information on restaurants, every type of service, schools, retail, automotive, churches, etc. and more!

NEHBA's member base was over 80 paid members in 2009 and our goal for 2010 is to have 100 paid members with a stretch goal of 110 (50% of the storefronts within the business boundaries). An organization with a large number of paying business members has a strong voice with City staff and elected officials.
NEHBA typically meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, February to November. Even months @ 7:30am and odd months @ 2pm. Meeting location to be posted each month. We do not meet in December and January's meeting is our Annual Meeting and Board Elections. Once a quarter, NEHBA uses its monthly meeting time to host a networking meeting for the business community.
Our 2010 Membership Drive is underway! Help us continue to address your concerns as a business owner. Email us if you have questions regarding membership or want more information. (View a partial list of 2010 members)

NEHBA Awarded 2nd Minneapolis Great Streets Facade Improvement Grant
On February 12th, 2010, the City Council passed a resolution directing CPED to establish a contract with the Nicollet-East Harriet Business Association (NEHBA) to be an administrator of $50,000 for the Great Streets Business Facade Improvement Program. NEHBA was one of 10 organizations chosen to administer these grants. This is the second time NEHBA has been chosen to be an administrator of this program. With this award NEHBA will have made $100,000 in business façade grant money available for businesses within the association’s boundaries.
The Great Streets Business Façade Improvement Program will provide matching grant money to nine city-designated commercial nodes within the association’s boundaries to do exterior façade improvements. Those nodes are 36th Street/Bryant Avenue, 46th St/Bryant Ave, 36th St/Lyndale Ave, 40th St/Lyndale Ave, 38th St/Grand Ave, 38th St/Nicollet Ave, 43rd St/Nicollet Ave, 46th St/Nicollet Ave and 48th St/Nicollet Ave.
From the fall of 2008 through February of 2010 NEHBA awarded nearly $50,000 of business façade improvement grants to businesses within its business association boundaries leveraging over $145,000 in project work. The new round of Great Streets Business Façade Improvement Program grant money is expected to become available in late spring / early summer of 2010. For more information, please email Deb Schirber or call 651-592-6571.
We are Pleased to Announce
On November 2, 2009, NEHBA was awarded $8,000 through the City of Minneapolis Business Association Assistance Program. This money will be an important adjunct to member dues which are the association's primary revenue source. The level of assistance NEHBA has been awarded is a solid vote of confidence in the association by the city.
Examples of money leveraged by the city's financial support of NEHBA include:
- Private investment when matching business façade improvement grant money
- Use of local products and services when doing façade improvements
- NRP-based façade improvement programs made more attractive through coordination with NEHBA's program
- Growing revenue from increased membership
- Unprecedented volunteer hours
The association is proud to have earned the trust, confidence and respect of the city, our partners and the businesses in our community. NEHBA members should be equally proud of the benefits their financial support of the organization provides to the community at large.
